Riga hosted the event "Artificial Intelligence in Education: From Vision to Practical Implementation"

On 21 January 2026, the University of Latvia hosted the event "Artificial Intelligence in Education: From Vision to Practical Implementation", which brought together education policy makers, representatives of education administrations, the academic community and technology companies to discuss the practical implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) in the Latvian education system.

The event was organised by the Artificial Intelligence Centre of the University of Latvia in collaboration with MILA and TILDE, creating a platform for cross-sectoral dialogue on responsible and meaningful use of AI in education.

The first part of the event featured presentations of several education technology and AI solutions developed in Latvia, including solutions from MILA members: Ernesta metode (MILA member) – a digital learning solution for teaching mathematics to students; Orbit8 – a digital career assistant for school career counsellors and teachers; Letonika.lv – Letonikas skola, an AI tool for teachers to create chatbots and tests from their own teaching materials.

Discussion on the implementation of AI from vision to practice

The central event of the event was a panel discussion moderated by MILA Board Chairwoman Oksana Sivokobiļska. The discussion was attended by Artūrs Vasiļevskis (TILDE), Jana Nerenberga (University of Latvia), Jānis Judrups (AI MasterLab), Edijs Freimanis (VIAA), Irina Lučina (Ventspils Education Administration), Ernests Kazakevičs (Ernesta method) and Pauls Irbiņš (Orbit8).

The participants agreed that the question of whether AI will be used in education is no longer relevant. The most important task now is to clearly define how and in which educational processes AI can provide the greatest added value, while ensuring its safe, transparent and responsible implementation.

"Artificial intelligence in education is already a reality. The next step is the ability to cooperate - at the state, municipal, academic and technology developer level - so that AI solutions bring real benefits to students, teachers and education administrations," emphasizes Oksana Sivokobiļska.

The event demonstrated the growing interest in the use of AI in education and the need for regular dialogue between all stakeholders. The Latvian Association for Artificial Intelligence will continue to actively participate in the creation of discussions and initiatives that promote the safe, practical and socially beneficial implementation of AI in Latvia.
